Extra Pale Ale

Ingredients

5.5 lbs Light Dry Extract (holding 1.25 cups as substitute for priming sugar)
Steeping grains:

  • 1 lb Dextrin Malt
  • 5 oz Crystal Malt 40L
  • 4 oz Victory Malt

3 oz Amarillo hops
S-05 yeast

Process

Steeped grains until 200 degrees.
2 oz of hops at 60 min
Whirlfloc tab at 15 min
1 oz of hops at 10 min

Keeping carboy in wooden temp-controlled box that Bill Ashman gave me.

Results

Tasted first beer on 3/8/12
Very cloudy. Great aroma. Very good taste for such a green beer. Smells and tastes a bit like Sierra Nevada Pale Ale.

Full batch served at my aunt's surprise 60th Birthday Party on 3/31/12
Turned out great. People went through my batch much quicker than any of the store-bought beer on hand, and a bunch of people came back for seconds, thirds and fourths.
