Batch 10

Pale Ale

A takeoff of Boston Brewers Supply Co. recipe from The Brewmaster's Bible

Ingredients
6.6 lbs Muntons Light Liquid Malt Extract
8 oz Caramel malt (steeping grains)
3 oz Fuggles hop pellets
1 Whirlfloc Tablet
1 pkg Safale S-04 English Ale Yeast
6 oz corn sugar for priming

Process

  • First time using canned malt extract

This was a unique brew because the recipe called for the steeping grains to be added to the cold water which was then brought to 160 degrees, rather than adding them to pre-heated water. Once it hit 160, I turned off the heat, put a lid on the kettle and steeped an additional 15 minutes.
50 min boil
2 oz of hops at 50
1 oz of hops at 10
Whirlfloc tab at 10
OG = 1.049

Lots of activity after less than 24 hours in the carboy.

FG = 1.013
48 bottles (with one additional 24 oz bottle)
